Read the battery before you buy the car.

Enter the VIN of a Model S, 3, X or Y and we ask Tesla for the pack’s own health estimate: how much of its original energy the battery holds, how many kWh that is today, and how old the measurement is.

How it works

  1. Enter a VIN

Paste the 17-character VIN from the listing, the registration document or the base of the windscreen. Logging in takes an email address and no password.

  2. We ask Tesla

We request the car’s own battery estimate from Tesla and show it as state of health, usable kWh and the date of the measurement. If Tesla has no estimate, you are not charged.

  3. Keep it and compare

Every car you look up stays in your cars with its mileage, price and notes. Put two or more side by side and see which pack is holding up better.

Plain questions

What is state of health?

State of health (SoH) is the share of its original usable energy that the battery holds today. A car at 90% can store 90% of what it could when new. Tesla reports it as a percentage, and we turn it into kWh for you.

Where does the data come from?

From Tesla. For each VIN we ask the vehicle specification service of Tesla’s Fleet API, which returns Tesla’s own battery estimate based on vehicle telemetry. We do not guess and we do not scrape other sites.

What if Tesla has no data?

Tesla does not report a battery estimate for every VIN. Some cars have none yet, and some VINs are unknown to Tesla. When there is no estimate we say so, and no lookup is used: you are not charged.

Do lookups expire?

No. Lookups stay on your account for as long as the service runs. If we ever stop the service, we refund unused lookups.

Can I get a refund?

Unused lookups can be refunded within 14 days of purchase: email us with your receipt. A lookup you have used is not refundable, because it is delivered instantly and your right of withdrawal ends for it once you use it.

Which Tesla models does it cover?

Model S, 3, X and Y. A VIN of any other Tesla, such as a Cybertruck or Roadster, is refused straight away and costs no lookup.

Is this affiliated with Tesla?

No. Battery Figures is an independent service. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Tesla, Inc. Tesla is a trademark of Tesla, Inc.

How fresh is the data?

Every report shows the date Tesla made the measurement. Tesla’s estimate changes slowly, so we ask Tesla at most once a day per car. A car in your cars can be refreshed after 7 days for 1 lookup.
